Sanctuary Garden at Arau, Perlis |
Despite being the smallest state in Malaysia, Perlis has
the most breathtaking views that I have seen so far. Besides amazed by
the beautiful views of Perlis, we as the first timer to step in Perlis
were lucky enough to meet with this cozy hostel, Sanctuary Garden.
Sanctuary Garden is square at the look and it is a three storey orange
building. Before complimenting the pleasant environment, I would like to
express my gratitude to the staff for greeting us warmly.
Sanctuary
Garden has just been operated for about a couple of months, so the
building itself is still quite new. The interior design is quite simple
yet in an organised manner. It was nice to look at. Just one thing I
dislike was that they turned on the table fan instead of the
air-conditioned, so it feels hot in the lobby.
This is the Sanctuary Garden's counter. It is the place
where the tourists check in their room and at the same time it is the
place for customers to order their food. Well, the ground floor of
Sanctuary Garden is actually a cafe. If you are a local, it is a good
idea to have your meal here while enjoying the cozy environment.
The business hour of the cafe is from 11.30 AM to 11 PM, too bad that they didn't serve breakfast. These cups are the decorations in front of the counter, I really like it!
According to the staff, Soo Guan coffee shop was actually
started by the Sanctuary Garden's boss's grandfather, but now it has
been closed. Despite that, the food of Soo Guan coffee shop can still be
tasted in Sanctuary Garden Cafe. The staff told me that the main course
of the cafe is actually came from the Soo Guan coffee shop. They
strongly recommend their chicken chop and chicken rice.
Saw these cakes in front of the counter. They look so delicious but we didn't get to try it on that day.
The dining place of the cafe mostly were set up with sofa, it was really comfortable.
Sanctuary Garden has set up a green grass-like carpet at the middle of the cafe, making it looks like a garden.
You know what? This is actually a real tree! Wow, it really surprised me to see such a living tree inside a cafe, so special! Since it is the real plant, therefore it required sunlight for it to carry out photosynthesis process. Thus, straight above the tree is a transparent pyramid shape roof which allow the sunlight to penetrate through the roof and shine on the tree.
I saw this unique table in the small garden. I really like the pattern on it!
To the right of the mini garden, there is another different style dining area. The environment here is much more colourful.
The environment of the cafe is really good
for photo shooting. You will get a nice background regardless where you
take your shot within the cafe.
Does these sofa look cute to you?The picture in these frames are all very old already, mostly are the posters of the old film. This must be the collection of the Sanctuary Garden's boss.
The Sanctuary Garden's boss is inside the photo, can you guess which one was he? Did you guess correctly? The boss is the one at the bottom right. We didn't get the chance to meet with the boss as the boss has went oversea.
Sanctuary Garden has a small library in it. There were lots of books with different genre on the rack. If these books were the collection of the boss, then he must be a knowledgeable man!
There is a air mattress at the corner and it is kinda a private space. For those who enjoy reading will love this place.
I saw this book of "Superstars of the World Cup" on the book rack. Any football fans here?
There is a mini football field beside the window. It seems like the boos is a football fan!
Besides providing hostel and cafe services, Sanctuary Garden also has a big room that can accommodate up to 50 people for the customers to organise private event, meeting, conference or party.
The middle and the top floors are the rooms. Sanctuary Garden has 19 rooms all together and the special thing about these rooms is that these rooms actually go by the football team name instead of numbers! Each room has their own colour theme. We got the Uruguay room and our room colour theme was light blue.
You will see the mini garden looking down from the top and it feels comfortable to look at it. Well, green plant helps to relax our mind.
This is our room, the 4 pax family room. The room is clean and is equipped with LCD TV. There are four cushions in the room for you to sit or lie on the floor. The bathroom is inside the room so you don't have to worry have to share the bathroom with other people. Though the room is installed with air-conditioned, but I still feel hot.
Following are the room rates of Sanctuary Garden.
Standard Double - Daily RM80, Monthly RM900
Standard Twin - Daily RM90, Monthly RM1000
Family Room (4 pax) - Daily RM120, Monthly RM1500
Super Family Room (7 pax, 2 bathrooms) - Daily RM180, Monthly RM2400
If you worried that you might get bored in the hostel, worry not, as Sanctuary Garden has prepared lots of games for their customers.
There are board games to play with as well. All of these board games were my childhood memories!
Personally rate this hostel 4.5/5. If you plan to travel in Perlis, Sanctuary Garden would be a good choice for your accommodation.
