Known as the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, Kek Lok Si temple has become one of the main attractions in Penang. Kek Lok Si is located at Air Itam which has occupied a twelve hectares of land on a mountain. During Chinese New Year, Kek Lok Si will open it's light and display fireworks. This has undoubtedly attracted many tourists from all over the world to witness this charming night of Kek Lok Si.

Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple (Waterfall Hill Temple) is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Penang. It was originally located within the grounds of the Penang Botanical Garden and it was moved to the top of the hill later. Waterfall Hill Temple is the last station for the Thaipusam procession.

Normally, when travelling at Bukit Mertajam, one will be go hunting the famous foods in Bukit Mertajam. However, for our trip, our schedule is fully pack with the Chinese temples in Bukit Mertajam. Our temple hunt starts the next day after the cremation ceremony of the God of Hades at Bukit Mertajam. Our first temple is this 'Ma Zu Temple'.

At the beginning of the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival, the urn masters will bring the urns to the celebrated location and then a ritual will be performed to invite the God of Hades to that place. And during the end of the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival, the God of Hades will be sent back to where he came from. This is done by burning the paper statue of the God of Hades. In some case where there are no paper statue of God of Hades, they will just simply burn the joss papers.

说到中秋节，在现代人的脑海里都是浮现出月饼，灯笼和嫦娥。可是，少数的人还是知道其实今天是月娘妈的生日。

七月廿九，也就是今年盂兰盛会的最后一天。就在今天，所有的大士爷将会被送走。据当地居民所说，由于今年没有七月三十，所以大士爷必须在八月初一来临前给火化掉，要不然鬼门就要关了。因此，今天的大士爷将会比以往的大士爷来得更早火化。

来到了大山脚，一般上人们都会在行程上排满了道地闻名的美食。可是这一趟我们的行程则是排满了道地的神庙！就在火化大山脚埠众盂兰胜会大士爷的隔一天，我们踏上了寻庙之旅。第一站我们就来到了这鲜为人知的古色古香海东妈神庙（妈祖庵）。

在盂兰胜会开始的时候，炉主们将会把炉请到盂兰盛会的地点然后为大士爷点眼开光。大士爷被开光后就意味着大士爷已被请到普渡的场地了。当然，在盂兰盛会结束时，大士爷将会通过火化大士爷纸扎金身被送回地府。没有纸扎金身的盂兰盛会则将会以焚烧金银纸欢送大士爷。

在华人的民间信仰文化里，请火是一个相当重要的仪式。长年间，被安奉在庙里的神明的力量会不断地减弱，所以必须请火再次把神明的力量从新充满。庙方会回到神明的原始地把神明再一次的请到庙里去。

农历七月的到来意味着盂兰胜会（鬼节）的开始。相傳陰司地府在七月初一大開鬼門關，直到七月三十日才再次關閉。在槟城，多数区域都会在农历七月里选上几天进行普渡。
