The Alley Cafe @ Stewart Lane |
If you are familiar with Georgetown, then you must be knowing that there are actually many alleys hidden in this small town. These alleys may be a shortcut (I have found quit a lot..hehe..) or it may be an entrance to a little kampung. Well, there is this one cafe in the town whereby it's name itself is 'The Alley'. It is a small cafe hidden in Stewart Lane. Despite being small, it does provide a comfortable environment for the customers.
The building of The Alley cafe is actually a rented unit. Due to the unwillingness of the shop owner to take down the original signboard, and due to the restriction of the UNESCO renovation law on the building, The Alley looks just like a normal old shop. It is easy to miss out if we do not pay enough attention to it.
Basically, the dining area of The Alley can be divided into 3 side, front side, backside and outside. The front and the back dining area are air-conditioned and the environment are quite comfortable. However, personally think that the front area is a bit small and it feels crowded when there are many customers.
The middle part is the counter. The prices of foods and drinks are listed on the wooden plank on the wall. The Alley only sells drinks, light food and cakes, they don't offer main course.
This is the backside dining area. The space is much more bigger and more private. It is suitable for friends and family gathering. See the blue door? It is the toilet. Every time the toilet door was opened, I can smell fragrance came out from it, I bet they must be putting a lot of air freshener in it.
The decorations on the wall are simple yet nice to see. I guess this is what we call it ART.
Look at these wall decorations, any idea where does they come from? It is actually the table top of the broken wooden table.
The life cycle of coffee beans. In the end they all end up being in the toilet..hehe..
Confident enough to take a shot with this talk bubble? XD
This is the dining area outside The Alley. This is really an alley!
Salted Caramel Cronut - RM8
Ever heard of cronut before? This is the first time I have heard of it and the first thing that came in my mind was coconut. After listening to the explanation, I just knew that cronut was actually the combination of croissant and donut. It is a famous food in New York and quite expensive as well. Due to the difficulties in the production process, we can rarely seen one in Malaysia.
Nutella Cronut - RM8
Croissant gives the crispy feel and donut feels soft on the bite. Since cronut is the combination of croissant and donut, therefore it gives out the crispy and softness feel at the same time. Sounds like a contradiction, right? Well, go and order one at The Alley and you will know what I meant.
Churros with Dip (Big) - RM9
Churros is the other light food available at The Alley. It tastes just like the Chinese fried dough stick (You Zha Gui). You can order a big one or a small one. The big one has 6 Churros and you get to choose two dips out of 5 available dips. The dips available are salted caramel, caramel, cinnamon sugar, chocolate and Nutella.
Churros with Dip (Small) - RM6
The small one has four Churros with one dip only.
Lemon Cheese Cake - RM10
The cakes at The Alley were froze after the making instead of baked. Do eat it it while it is still cold as you will not want it to melt. The cakes sold at The Alley was one twelfth of the original size.
Black and White - RM10
White chocolate fillings and the black chocolate chips made up the name of this cheese cake. This is my favorite cheese cake of all as I am too much in love with the chocolate chips!
Strawberry Orange Cheese Cake with Home-made Mashmallow - RM10
Cheese cake with the combination of strawberry and orange, every tried before? The topping is the homamade marshmallow. Personally think that it was a bit too sweet and somehow it feels salty. Well, the taste is definitely special!
Dirty Chai Cheese Cake - RM10
Dirty Chai is actually a coffee drink. It mixed up the espresso and Chai (an Indian spice) and it taste like masala. This cheese cake made of Dirty Chai has a very special taste but not everyone can accept it.
Dirty Chai (Secret Drink)
This is the Dirty Chai coffee drink I was talking about just now. It is not listed in the menu as not many people can accept it's taste. Yet, there are customers who will specially request for this drink.
Cappuccino - RM9
Normally, cappuccino is served with biscuits. The Alley is somehow special as they served their cappuccino with peanut candy.
Mocha - RM11
I find that the coffee at The Alley was not that attractive. Perhaps I have get used to the coffee taste at normal kopitiam.
Pinky Guava Frappe - RM13
Macho Mango Frappe - RM13
Iced Chocolate - RM11
Choc Mint Frappe - RM13
Choc Oreo Frappe - RM13
Each of us ordered our own drink and I have ordered Choc Oreo Frappe. I wasn't really satisfy with the taste as it is a bit dull and the chocolate taste was not strong enough. After evenly stirring it, the taste become sweeter but still far from the ideal taste.
