Loke Thye Kee |
If you are a Penangite, or ever been to Pennag, I believe that you must have seen this unique building before. This three storey building is called Loke Thye Kee and is located just beside the octopus footbridge of Georgetown. Each storey of Loke Thye Kee present a different ambiance dining space. The ground floor is a Hainanese Kopitiam, the first floor is a classic western style restaurant and the roof terrace is a bar. Due to the uniqueness of this building, many photography lover has came to shoot the beautiful site of Loke Thye Kee.
Let
start with the introduction of this traditional Hainanese Kopitiam at
the ground floor first. The foods selling here are not much different
from the normal kopitiam, we can get the same foods at almost any other
kopitiam in town. One thing different is that Loke Thye Kee Kopitiam is
air-conditioned, and it was quite cold for me.
Same as many kopitiam, Loke Thye Kee Kopitiam also
practiced the self service food order. Customers have to order their
food at the counter.
Do you feel the kopitiam environment by looking at this uncle making coffee?
Part of the kitchen's wall is made up with this iron door. It is a very special design, don't you think?
There is a bricks wall in the kopitiam and the wall was decorated with the classical wooden windows and wooden door. It is a good idea to take a selfie with such classic background, don't you think so?
There
is a another wall written with "KoPiTiAM" for the customers to write
their comments. There are colourful chalks prepared on the table in
front of the wall for the customers to leave their thoughtful comments
on the wall.
Many antiques can be found in the kopitiam. The iron thermos was my childhood memory, I still remembered that mine was a red colour thermos.
Wooden planks were set on the wall to put the antiques. Does anyone still keep these antiques in your house?
The prices of drinks of Loke Thye Kee Kopitiam is a bit more expensive compared to the normal kopitiam but still reasonable (well, you are in the air-conditioned kopitiam anyway).
Soft-Boiled Eggs (2 pcs) - RM2.50
Toasted Bread - RM3.50
Nasi Lemak - RM2.50
The cold drinks sold here is RM0.30 more expensive than the hot drinks (except for Kopi C, only add RM0.20 for the cold one).
Normally we cant get ice blended in a kopitiam, right? However, at Loke Thye kee kopitiam, you can. The prices of the ice blended range between RM6 to RM7. As for the can drinks, they are all sold at RM2.50.
Alright, now lets move to the Loke Thye Kee Restaurant on the first floor.
The interior design of Loke Thye Kee Restaurant is more to the western style. The floor is made of the classic black and white neatly arranged squares. The classical drawings hanging on the wall made the restaurant even more classic. The space in the restaurant is quite big and it is comfortable to dine in.
There are single table, double table and long table being set in the restaurant. What I want to say is, there is always a suitable table for you to dine in regardless of the number of people you are with.
If you don't like air-condition or you wish to smoke, you can choose to have your meal at the balcony.
To
have your meal at the balcony, isn't it special? This is definitely a
nice place for dating as well. I am sure that it will be a romantic
date!
Well, you can enjoy the magnificent Komtar tower while having your meal at the balcony.
Done
with the environment and now lets move to the foods. Loke Thye Kee
Restaurant served mainly Malaysian cuisine and is prepared by the local
chef. All their dishes are pork-free and they are in the process of
applying 'Halal' certification.
Hainanese Chicken Chop - RM18
Hokkien Char - RM16
Nyonya Curry Fish Head - RM45
Hainanese Chicken Rice - RM18
Chicken Char Siew - RM18
Pie Tee - RM9
Otak Prawn Pan Cake - RM12
Macaroni Pie - RM20
This is just a plate of normal white rice. This is the first time I have seen a normal white rice with so many side dishes.
Finally the desserts! I really love their cakes! :)
I didn't get the chance to visit the bar on the roof terrace so I cant introduce it to you all.
